Iberia Lab, Iberia's open innovation laboratory dedicated to generating new ideas and solutions through the participation of its employees, celebrated its third edition with more participation and ideas than ever: more than 800 proposals. Iberia Lab is a space where employees come up with ideas to solve strategic challenges or improve aspects of the company's operation.

Crews, maintenance and office staff have been involved with the program, demonstrating that innovation is everyone's responsibility. Since its launch in 2018, Iberia Lab has collected more than 2500 ideas.

The three pillars of Iberia Lab

01 Sharing innovation:involve employees in company innovation, reinforcing a participatory culture and encouraging collaboration between areas.

02 Accelerate innovation:transform knowledge and internal experience into high-potential ideas that generate real opportunities for Iberia.

03 Develop talent:identify, recognize and train professionals with an entrepreneurial profile, providing them with skills and visibility to lead change.

“This is indeed a culture of innovation: giving space, time and structure to the talent we already have to build the future of Iberia”

Martin Beitia, Innovation, Design and Research Manager.

From the idea to the Demo Day

Of the 800 proposals submitted, 15 were the finalist ideas that were defended before the management committee in a five-minute presentation format with a round of questions. Proposals on digital twins, biometrics applied to luggage or more accessible travel experiences stood out at an event broadcast in streaming for the entire company. The Demo Day also served to share learning and promote networking between teams.

From ideas to impact

In the coming weeks, the winning initiatives will begin to be designed for pilot development. Which will be added to the projects of previous editions already under way, demonstrating their ability to take proposals from the slate to the runway. The program demonstrates its ability to take proposals from the slate to the runway.

Examples of ideas that are already flying

  • SOLIDARITY AVIOS, which allows customers to donate AVIOS to NGOs with which Iberia collaborates and which have already managed more than 50 million AVIOS.
  • Everything Begins With Me, a recognition program in which the best employees in terms of our clients' experience win awards month after month.
  • Customer Experience Open AI, which facilitates the process of analyzing customer surveys and feedback using generative artificial intelligence.

A community that builds the future

The success of the third edition reflects the strength of a community that shares a vision and purpose: to transform the experience of flying and the airport operation from within. Participants, mentors, judges and external partners agree that collective creativity is today the most valuable competitive advantage for an airline that aspires to lead innovation in the sector.
